A criminal operation based in London relied on motorway service stations (stacione shërbimi autostrade) along the M25 to facilitate the movement of migrants who had been transported into the United Kingdom in lorries. The investigation revealed that individuals were moved between vehicles at these locations before being taken into the city, highlighting a coordinated smuggling network (rrjet kontrabande) operating across key transit points.

Authorities identified that the group charged approximately £11,000 per person for the illegal entry (hyrje e paligjshme) into the country. Over an 18-month period, detectives established that at least 20 Albanian nationals were transported into London through this system, although officials indicated the actual number of smuggled individuals (persona të kontrabanduar) was likely higher based on available evidence.

The operation was dismantled following an extensive investigation led by the Metropolitan Police. Officers relied on CCTV surveillance (mbikëqyrje me kamera) from service stations, combined with vehicle tracking and intelligence analysis, to identify those involved. Additional evidence was obtained through phone data analysis (analizë e të dhënave telefonike), which revealed communication between smugglers and HGV drivers coordinating meeting points and transfers.

Three individuals were arrested on June 18 and later prosecuted for their role in the scheme. At Southwark Crown Court, they were convicted of conspiracy to facilitate illegal immigration (komplot për lehtësimin e emigracionit të paligjshëm) following a seven-week trial. Sentences handed down reflected the scale of their involvement, with combined prison terms totaling 15 years.

The investigation was led by Acting Detective Inspector Stuart Jack, who described the operation as financially motivated. He stated: "The team worked tirelessly to put these three criminals behind bars, where they can no longer exploit vulnerable people. Our investigation has shown that, ultimately, this case was all to do with money – an illegal money-making conspiracy, driven entirely by profit.

"We know that people smuggled into the UK are often exploited further when they arrive or are forced to work for the organised criminal networks who brought them over, therefore driving further crime in the capital and beyond. I would urge people, particularly HGV drivers, to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity to police. Despite what some people may believe, this isn’t a victimless crime."

Law enforcement officials emphasized that such operations frequently involve the exploitation of migrants (shfrytëzimi i migrantëve) after arrival, including forced labor within criminal systems. Authorities continue to encourage reporting of suspicious activities to disrupt similar organised crime networks (rrjete të krimit të organizuar) operating across transport infrastructure.
