IT’S TIME TO

IN LOVE WITH ALBANIAN

The Albanian Institute is a cultural and educational initiative devoted to promoting the Albanian language and the heritage of Albania and Kosovo around the world. Founded with the belief that language is the key to understanding identity, history and human connection, the Albanian Institute provides high-quality resources for free to all who wish to master Albanian or gain a deeper understanding of their cultural roots.

At the heart of the Institute is a dedicated team of Albanian language teachers and course writers who bring together academic expertise, real-world teaching experience and a heartfelt commitment to preserving and sharing the Albanian linguistic tradition.

We are proud to offer a carefully structured Albanian language course that balances grammar, vocabulary, listening comprehension, and cultural insight. The course is the result of years of work, informed by feedback from learners around the world. It reflects not only our educational philosophy but also our personal mission to help students engage with Albanian as a living, evolving language. Our goal is to guide you clearly and confidently through its complexity—step by step—while making the learning experience as enjoyable and inspiring as possible.

In addition to language instruction, the Albanian Institute is committed to promoting Albanian culture in all its forms. Through our News section we showcase for an international audience the latest cultural events, artists, musicians, writers and businesses doing innovative work in Albania and Kosovo as well as traditional holidays.

We are constantly expanding and improving our content, and we’re deeply grateful for the support and encouragement we receive from around the world. Your feedback and ideas help shape our direction and keep the project growing.

Thank you for joining us on this journey!

ARDIT HOXHA

Born in the heart of southern Albania, raised on fjalë të urta and homemade raki, he grew up steeped in the rhythms of a language where every syllable carries history and every idiom has a story. This lifelong love affair with Albanian—its poetry, its structure, its stubborn beauty—naturally led him to a degree in Albanian Philology, where he dove deep into everything from historical linguistics to the sociopolitics of syntax.

After university, he didn’t just file his diploma away—he put it to work. Whether teaching in a classroom, leading community workshops, or helping diaspora kids untangle the mysteries of their grandparents’ language, he’s made it his mission to keep Albanian alive, vibrant, and accessible. He brings a mix of academic rigor, cultural storytelling, and dry humor to every lesson, believing that language isn’t just grammar—it’s memory, identity, and above all, connection.

Editor-in-Chief

MARK ANDERSON

Mark came to Albania for work—and ended up staying for the raki, the fli, and the people who insist you're family by the second coffee. What was meant to be a short assignment quickly turned into a life-altering decision: he unpacked his bags, learned how to pronounce “xh” without fear, and called Albania home.

As an American who tackled Albanian from ground zero (and still remembers the trauma of figuring out how many kinds of past tense exist), Mark brings humor, patience, and plenty of real-life blunders to his teaching. He knows exactly how it feels to mix up “dashuri” and “dëshirë,” and he’s on a mission to make sure other learners don’t suffer the same fate.

News & Culture Editor

ELIRA KRASNIQI

She grew up in Shkodra, where even the street vendors speak in verses and music echoes off the stone walls like a second heartbeat. In a city famous for its poets, performers, and unshakable pride, she found her passion early: language—not just as a tool, but as an art form, a cultural compass, and a way of feeling at home anywhere in the world.

With a degree in Education and more than ten years of teaching under her belt, she’s helped everyone from zoomers to retirees unlock the logic (and music) of the Albanian language. She’s taught in classrooms across Albania and abroad, always bringing a bit of Shkodran charm and a dash of wit. She’s currently on a mission to bring high-quality Albanian language resources to the world. If her work helps someone finally master the infamous “ë”, then she’s doing exactly what she was meant to do.

MIRA SHEHU

Born and raised in Tirana, she witnessed firsthand the incredible transformation of Albania—from gray blocks to bursts of color, from isolation to connection. Growing up during a time of rapid change, she developed a deep appreciation for the stories, sounds, and soul of her homeland—and found her calling through its language.

She joined us with one goal: to make Albanian more accessible. In a digital world full of generic resources and automated translations, she’s determined to offer something real. And if her students walk away knowing how to conjugate aorist and how to make small talk with their gjyshja? Mission accomplished!
