Kosovo’s national football team has been formally recognized with the Presidential Medal of Merit, an award presented by President Vjosa Osmani during an official ceremony. The event brought together players, federation representatives, and coaching staff, marking a moment of national acknowledgment for the team’s achievements and contribution to national pride (krenari kombëtare) and sporting identity.

Among those present were members of the national squad, the president of the Football Federation of Kosovo, Agim Ademi, and head coach Franco Foda. The ceremony emphasized the importance of the team’s role not only in sports results but also in strengthening international representation (përfaqësim ndërkombëtar) and the country’s image abroad through football.

During her address, President Osmani underlined that the value of the team’s achievements extends beyond measurable results. She stated that the pride generated by the players cannot be fully expressed through awards or formal recognition, pointing to their broader impact on society and collective identity. She described the team’s journey as part of a longer process of sport development (zhvillim sportiv) and future growth.

She also emphasized that current performances represent only an initial phase, expressing confidence that greater successes lie ahead. The team’s recent form, both in domestic and international contexts, was described as a significant milestone, positioning them as a notable example of progress in competitive performance (performancë konkurruese) within international football.

The recognition followed a period of strong results during the qualification cycle, where Kosovo managed to overcome multiple challenges and move closer to participation in major international tournaments. These efforts contributed to increasing expectations around the team’s future potential (potencial i ardhshëm) and long-term development.

Captain and leading scorer Vedat Muriqi addressed the audience during the ceremony, expressing both pride and disappointment regarding recent developments. “We hope to have a very promising future with a golden generation coming,” said Muriqi. “I am very proud to be part of the Kosovo squad. As the captain, I truly wanted to lead the team in America, but sometimes fate does not cooperate. Thank you all, on behalf of the team, and I hope that next time we can qualify for a European or World Cup tournament.”

His remarks highlighted the emotional dimension of international competition, where success is often accompanied by missed opportunities. The inability to participate in certain matches or tournaments reflects the unpredictable nature of sports competition (garë sportive) at the highest level.

The ceremony took place shortly after Kosovo’s match against Turkey, which ended in a 0-1 defeat. Despite this result, the team’s overall performance throughout the qualification period has been regarded as a positive development, reinforcing their position within international football and contributing to team recognition (njohje e ekipit) on a broader stage.

Kosovo’s national team has steadily gained visibility since joining international football organizations, participating in European and global competitions. This progress reflects ongoing investment in infrastructure, training, and player development, all of which contribute to strengthening football development systems (sisteme zhvillimi futbolli) in the country.

The awarding of the Presidential Medal of Merit symbolizes institutional support for sports and recognition of athletes’ contributions beyond the field. It also serves as encouragement for future performances, as Kosovo continues to build its presence in international competitions.
