Hearings in Justice Obstruction Case Postponed by Special Court
Proceedings involving former Kosovo president temporarily halted

The Special Court has announced the cancellation of upcoming hearings in the case involving former president Hashim Thaçi, who faces charges related to obstruction of justice (pengim i drejtësisë). The decision affects sessions that had been scheduled for mid-April, reflecting a temporary pause in the ongoing judicial proceedings (procedurat gjyqësore) linked to the case.
According to the official communication, the hearings were originally set to take place on April 14 and April 17, 2026. These sessions formed part of a broader legal process addressing alleged criminal offences against the administration of justice (vepra penale kundër administrimit të drejtësisë). The cancellation interrupts the planned timeline of the case, although no detailed explanation for the postponement was provided in the initial statement.
“Thaçi and others have had their hearings scheduled for next week cancelled. We inform you that the hearings planned for April 14–17, 2026, in the case against Thaçi and others in relation to charges of criminal offences against the administration of justice, have been cancelled. Further information will be provided as soon as it becomes available,” the Special Court said in its announcement.
The statement confirms that the decision applies not only to Thaçi but also to other individuals involved in the same legal process. This indicates that the case encompasses multiple defendants and relates to broader allegations concerning interference with legal processes (ndërhyrje në proceset ligjore). However, the absence of further clarification leaves open questions regarding procedural or logistical factors behind the delay.
The cancellation highlights the procedural flexibility within complex international cases, where developments can lead to adjustments in scheduling. Such delays may influence the pace of case adjudication (gjykimi i çështjes) and extend the duration of proceedings, particularly in cases involving multiple charges and participants.
At this stage, the court has indicated that additional updates will be communicated once more information becomes available. The postponement therefore represents a temporary suspension rather than a termination of proceedings, with the continuation of the case dependent on forthcoming procedural developments (zhvillime procedurale).
